  1. I am sorry to hear about Jerry Don’s death. This comment is probably not politically correct, but what do I care about politics. It is a basketball story about Jerry Don and another classmate who is also deceased, Sherwood McKinley.
In 1963 Bowie High School was entirely white, in fact Montague County did not allow blacks to live in the county. Our senior year we played in a basketball tournament in Lawton, Ok. We made it to the championship game. Our opponent was an entirely black team which had not lost in over forty games. We were up by one point with seconds left in the game, and Jerry Don got the rebound which should have won the game. He dribbled the ball a couple of times and then passed the ball straight to one of the opponents who was very black. Luckily he missed the shot and we won the game. When asked why he threw the ball to the opponent, Jerry Don replied that he thought he was passing it to Sherwood. Hope Jerry Don’s family get a chuckle from this.
