Now that’s better for Nocona

Now that’s a near-perfect performance.
The Nocona High School football team had only one turnover and produced several scoring plays as the Indians wrapped up scrimmages on Thursday playing Olney at Jack Crain Stadium.
“I thought we did well the whole scrimmage,” Nocona head football coach Brad Keck said. “We had no false starts, and one turnover on a ball that shouldn’t have been thrown. But, that’s correctable.”
The Indians looked more cohesive here than last Saturday’s scrimmage against Windthorst. Both Olney and Windthorst are Conference 2A schools.
Experience mattered, too.
Nocona’s players know what to expect since Keck has been in charge of the Indians program for several seasons. Meanwhile, Olney is starting over again with new coach Mark Young. The Cubs were winless last season.
“When we went to the live quarter, I thought Olney played with a little more hesitation,” Keck said.
During the live quarter, Gavin Johnson opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run. Read the weekend edition of The Bowie News for more.

Rodgers signs to Ranger College

Bowie senior Nathan Rodgers signed his letter of intent to run at Ranger College on Monday.

Bowie’s Nathan Rodgers signed his letter of intent to run cross country and track at Ranger College.
The senior, who is the son of Ryan and Jessica Rodgers, has spent the past three years running on the varsity cross country team as one of its top runners. He helped the team win the district title in 2020 and has helped the Jackrabbits to team district runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022.
While running in the regional meet the past three years, Rodgers had his best finish this past fall at 32nd.
Rodgers also played varsity basketball his senior year and helped the Jackrabbits make it to the regional quarterfinals.
“Ranger offered me quite a good deal,” Rodgers said. “The coach is a good one who will develop me and make me better. I already met some of my teammates so we already have that bond. All around it was just a good college.”
