The Bowie Public Library has received exciting news as the Tocker Foundation will provide a grant of $17,400 to fund the digitizing of newspapers house as the library on microfilm and other formats.
Beth Hiatt, library director, said she received notice of the grant award last week. The Tocker Foundation has been very generous to the local library in the past helping fund remodeling and other projects. The foundation’s focus is to promote Texas public libraries in communities of 12,000 or less. Nearly 40 library projects were reviewed by a grant committee of librarians appointed by the Texas Library Association.
Once the newspapers are digitized, they will be accessible through the Portal to Texas History maintained by the University of North Texas Libraries.
