Accident destroys library book drop

The recently installed book/video drop at the Bowie Public Library was destroyed when a car struck it on Sept. 25. Bowie Police Officer James Bohannon investigated the accident at 12:30 p.m. Friday. His report states Jenet Marie Barlow, 72, Bowie, turned into the parking area in front of the library at Cummins and Walnut Streets. After turning into one of the parking spaces in front, she attempted to apply the brake and hit the accelerator instead. The vehicle jumped the curb and hit the drop box and corner sidewalk up light. The ambulance service responded, but the driver was uninjured. (photo by Ryan Evans)
