BEDC acquires bank building

The Bowie Economic Development Corporation has purchased the former Bowie Citibank building at the corner of Mason and Pecan streets.
The EDC bid for the building and had signed confidentiality and purchase agreements, but was not sure of the building’s status until last week.
“We knew we were the high bidder, but didn’t know if they would sell us the building or not,” said BEDC Executive Director Janice Crawley. “It wasn’t until I received an email on Sept. 11 asking where to send the signed paperwork. That paperwork arrived on Sept. 18, and we closed on it Sept. 21.”
Crawley added she believed all the former Citibank buildings in the area all closed on Sept. 21, ending all confidentiality agreements.
“This is a project that has been on our agenda since last October,” the director noted.
At this time, Crawley is unsure of how the BEDC board wants to utilize the building, but a meeting is scheduled for Oct. 7 to address its future.
