The Gold-Burg boys’ basketball team received a last bit of seasoning heading into the District 1A-21 slate that starts this weekend.
The Bears competed in the Bryson Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, finishing 1-3, with the win over Notre Dame on Tuesday.
Gold-Burg lost twice Wednesday to Perrin Whitt 46-44 and Wichita Christian 64-26, a team that beat the Bears by just 10 points up at the Vernon Tournament in early December. A high-scoring Priddy team also downed Gold-Burg 81-52.
“We went 1-3, but we could have been 2-2,” Gold-Burg head coach Aaron Tefertiller said. “We haven’t had much practice, and the tournament gave us a chance to get back in the swing of things. It gave us an opportunity to play basketball for two days.”
Tefertiller set the schedule so the Bears would play a lot of games just before the 1A-21 opener Saturday versus Slidell.
“We got in a hole against Notre Dame, but then we were able to hold them down defensively,” Tefertiller added.
Rayge Gardner and Anthony Rios were all-tournament selections. Read more in the Bowie News.
