Bowie man is jailed for attempting to burn down his own house

The new year did not start out well for Michael Paul Weiand as he was arrested on a warrant for arson.

Bond for the first-degree felony was $50,000, and as of Tuesday Weiand remained in the Montague County Jail.

This possible arson case stems from an early morning fire at 144 April Street north of Bowie off U.S. Highway 81.

Bowie Rural Volunteer Fire Department City of Bowie firefighters responded to the blaze at the brick home.

Fire Marshall Doug Page was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze. Investigators believe he was attempting to burn down his own house while destroying documents he has in connection with a Department of Transportation audit. Read the full story in the mid-week News.
