Nocona Middle School sending three to state science/math competition

Nocona Middle School Science Club competed in the Texas Association of Math Editors math and science divisional competition at Midwestern State University on Jan. 23. with three advancing to state.

Students were judged based on individual performance on written math and science exams as well as a team engineering design challenge.

Nocona Middle School students captured 19 of possible 42 individual awards.

Ten students were part of engineering teams that won awards .

Nocona competed against Wichita Falls and Iowa Park. Approximately 110 students, sixth through twelfth grade participated.

Three first place winners in the individual math and science tests will advance to the state level in San Antonio on April 30. They are: Corbin Patterson, Trey Pepper and Jessica Flores. Read the full story in the mid-week News.

Three area school one-act plays advance to district

It was a week for theater as Montague County high schools took to the stage for University Interscholastic League one-act play competition at multiple locations with three advancing to district after zone contests.
Gold-Burg High competed at zone on March 19 advancing to district on March 29 at North Central Texas College. They bring “Interview” to the stage. They will compete with Belllevue, Forestburg, Saint Jo, Slidell and Midway.
Gold-Burg Director Linda Fitzner said the competition day for district begins at 10 a.m. with Bellevue and the remaining plays will perform in approximately one hour intervals with a break for lunch. Saint Jo is next followed by Forestburg and Gold-Burg.

Nocona High OAP goes to district contest

Chrissy Shubert, director of the Nocona High School one-act play, said although this is her first year to take on the production she is “excited to share this talented group of students without community.”
Their play is “Brian the Comet” by Emily Hageman and it focuses around the inner turmoil of a 17-year-old girl named Jude as her father dies of lung cancer. During her emotional journey, Judge befriends a hospital patient named Brian. The two teeNs must learn that even though light is short and unpredictable, humans must still find the beauty and joy in living.
“Out ensemble has worked hard to put together an amazing performance that touches audiences and encourages us all to look for the joy in life,” states the Shubert.
They will perform at district competition at 2 p.m. on March 20 at Olney High School. Shubert is director and assistant director is Christy James.
Cast members are: Susannah Hill, Briley Shubert, Jazmin Aguilar, Isaac Fulumana, Abby Hill, Abram Friesen, Allie Sutton, Draven Griffith, Taylor Killian and Shelby Sewell. Crew members are: J.J. Salgado, Yeni Estrada, Chris Jones, Kaygan Stone, Naomi Hilton and Kaeley Delafuente.

NHS hosts one-act play performance prior to district contest

Nocona High School’s one-act play, “Brian the Comet” will be presented in a public performance at 3 p.m. on March 17.
The students will compete for district at 2 p.m. on March 20 at Archer City High School.
