When voters passed a bond to build a new Bowie High School in 2007, the impact of such a wise decision has reverberated ever since.
That’s because Bowie has become a destination for high school playoff games and regional tournaments.
This past winter, Iowa Park’s Keaton Jackson hit the game-winning shot in a Conference 4A bi-district game between the Hawks and Mineral Wells.
“It was a good moment for us,” said Payton Jackson, Iowa Park head boys’ basketball coach. “It’s nice to get a win in Bowie. The gym is beautiful, and you can tell Bowie is a big basketball community.”
Jackson said he likes the layout of the high school gymnasium, with fans above courtside.
Iowa Park also plays in Bowie’s regular-season tournament, and the Hawks have visited here in the summer for league play.
