Bowie utility customer scammed by alleged overdue bill

A Bowie resident was “scammed” out of about $300 from a caller who said he was collecting for Bowie Utilities and the resident would lose service if he did not pay immediately.

Police Chief Guy Green said the citizen made the incident report to Detective Randy Hanson on Thursday afternoon.

The caller told the citizen he had an overdue bill with Bowie Utilities and if payment was not made the services would be cut off.

Unfortunately, the resident paid the alleged bill through a credit/debit card and when he followed up with the city he found there was no bill.
