OUTDOORS: TPWD responds to 12 drownings in July

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department issued its full report for incidents that took place during Independence Day weekend.

The TPWD reported heightened water recreation across the state led to numerous calls for assistance.

Wardens responded to 12 drowning fatalities and two near drowning cases.

They were called to 34 boating accidents with one fatality and eight serious injuries, filed 57 cases for either boating or driving while intoxicated, and made 55 other arrests.

Overall, wardens made contact with more than 56,000 boaters on more than 16,000 watercrafts.
