Three local athletes will be front and center during the Texas 6-Man Coaches Association all-star games.
Forestburg’s Malaci Moore and Taten Vann will play at 7:30 p.m. on July 15 in the Division II football game set for Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
“I think it’s wonderful for them to be able to be recognized and selected,” said Forestburg head football coach Wayne Tuckwell. “It’s good for our program.”
Then at 2 p.m. on July 16, Bellevue’s Jakob Watkins will compete on the East squad during the all-star boys’ basketball game at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the Midwestern State University campus.
“It means a lot to me,” said Watkins, who becomes the latest in a long line of Eagles to play in the all-star game.
Two years ago, Brandt Cassetty represented Bellevue, and last year it was Broc Terry.
Watkins said he hopes to use the game as a springboard to show college coaches what he can do. Jakob is undecided on college, but he’d like to continue playing basketball.
This was a banner year for Watkins as he guided the Eagles to both district and bi-district championships. Roxton eliminated Bellevue in the playoffs. Read more, and see ticket price information, in the July 13 Bowie News.
Forestburg’s Taten Vann (25) will compete in the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association all-star football game this Friday. This marks the third consecutive year for TSMCA all-star games in Wichita Falls. Vann will compete on the Division II east team along with Forestburg teammate Malaci Moore.
