The first public hearing for the proposed 2016 tax rate for the City of Bowie will take place during the regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16.
The proposed rate is .5127 cents per $100 in property value, which is slightly higher than the .4945 cents rate in 2015.
Other items on the regular agenda will include the second reading of the ordinance calling the Nov. 8 election. There are three places on the city council up for elections and as of Friday there were candidates for each place. For the north ward, Incumbent Scott Davis has filed, along with former councilor Laura Sproles.
In the east ward, Councilor Ben Wiseman is seeking another term and is challenged by Richard Lee. In the south ward, Douglas Boyd has filed, while the incumbent in this precinct, Dana Hulstine, has not filed.
Election filings continues through Aug. 22.
The only new item of business is consideration of the audit engagement letter from Donald Allman, certified public accountant. During the workshop prior to the regular session there will be departmental reports given, along with the city manager’s report.
