The Bowie City Council had the first public hearing on the proposed 2016 tax rate on Tuesday night with no citizens in attendance.

It was a brief agenda of business with the hearing and only a few items on the agenda. Mayor Pro Tem Scott Davis presided.

City Manager Ricky Tow reviewed the tax rate proposal which is .5127 cents per $100 in property value. This is slightly higher than the .4945 cent rate in 2015.

The assessed valuation for 2017 is $272,663,754, which will create an estimated levy of $1,397,947.

One cent generates $27,266 based on the straight levy with no exemptions included.
