Early morning crash ends with drug arrest

laurie steeleAn early morning wreck turned into a drug arrest Thursday for the Bowie Police Department.

The police were called to a traffic accident at East Wise Street and the railroad bridge about 4 a.m. Aug. 18. Sgt. Scott Parker responded to the scene and found the driver Laurie Steele, 49, Nocona, in her vehicle under the bridge.

Parker explained Steele was driving a small Ford sports utility vehicle south on U.S. Highway 81 (Wise) when she crossed the highway into the northbound side and drove up the concrete embankment.

Once at the top of the railroad bridge the vehicle scrapped the top of the bridge and came to rest back on the highway below under the bridge on the shoulder.

A probable cause search of the vehicle discovered 36 grams of methamphetamine and a large amount of cash, plus items associated with drug packaging.
