NOCONA – Helen Ruth Davis Fitzgerald, 78, died on Jan. 1, 2017.
A visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 4 at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at the First Assembly of God Church. A graveside service will follow at the Nocona cemetery.
Helen was born on April 1, 1939 in Bertram, TX to Thelma and Clyde Davis. In grade school she moved with her mom to Andrews. She married Gene Fitzgerald on Nov. 11, 1956.
Her family finally settled in Nocona in July 1973. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Nocona Boot Company, then as a teller for the Nocona bank, and later was a co-owner of the downtown Toggery clothing store. Later in life, she and Gene opened Lone Star Finance and operated the business together for several decades. She also owned the Credit Bureau of Montague County.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Davis.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gene; son, Greg, Midland, son, Terry, Cypress and son, Jerry, Midlothian; two grandsons; two granddaughters; one great granddaughter; and sisters, Erie Folkner, San Angelo and Sandra Kahrau, Midland.
