BOWIE – Annie Belle James, 95, died March 7, 2017 in Bowie, TX.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. March 11 at the First Baptist Church of Bowie with visitation at 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
James was born April 23, 1921 in Montague County to Flavius “Bud” and Jimmie Elizabeth (Rolen) Hamilton. She graduated from Stoneburg High School. She received an associates of arts degree from Decatur Baptist College, a bachelor of science degree music education from the University of Howard Payne, attended Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth and a master of music education degree from the University of North Texas. She was a charter member of the Texas Choral Directors Association.
She married the Rev. Maurice B. James on Nov. 18,1939. She taught choral and general music in the public schools of Texas for 30 years including middle and elementary grades in Bowie, before moving to Corpus Christi. Annie became a music supervisor for the school in Corpus Christi.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Jimmie Hamilton; husband, Maurice James; and sisters, Cordie Lee Leonard and Anna Mae Dooley.
She is survived by her children, Linda Wynn, Bowie, John James, Red Rock and Robert James, San Antonio; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
