Montague County will be home to not one but two historic jails after receiving a donation of the old Ringgold city jail at the April 24 commissioner’s court meeting.
The Ringgold jail will join the old Montague County jail pending review of liability insurance for the property.
The county will own the property, while the Montague County Texas Historical Commission will be in charge of its operation.
Members of the historical commission were present to discuss the history of the jail with commissioners.
“It is a very unique building,” said Max Brown, member emeritus of the MCTHC. “It needs to be saved.”
