Forestburg Independent School District has approved the hire of Brock Ramsey as head boys’ basketball coach.
Ramsey was most recently coach at Paducah, where the Dragons compiled a 13-16 record a season ago.
“It was his experience,” said superintendent John Metzler as rationale for the hire. “He’s been to the playoffs 16 times in 21 years, and he’s had regional qualifiers.”
Ramsey represents part of the new blood at Forestburg, which also includes new athletic director and head football coach Tommy Tritz.
“Change is always exciting,” Metzler added.
Before coaching at Paducah, Ramsey served a stint as head coach at Klondike, near Lamesa.
Ramsey was unanimously approved by the board at its May meeting. Metzler reported there were about 20 applicants, and three finalists were interviewed.
“I think we have a pretty good core of players, and I am excited about the season,” said Ramsey, who originally is from Byers in Clay County.
Metzler said Ramsey also will be a high school social studies teacher, and help with other sports.
“It gets me back closer to my family,” Ramsey added about why he accepted the Forestburg position.
Tritz said he will most likely be the head track and field coach, but he expects every other coach on staff to have a role. Read more in the May 27 Bowie News.
