County transfers its interest from burned nursing home

Montague County Commissioners approved the transfer of the title to the old Bellmire Nursing Home facility to the City of Bowie during a July 24 meeting.

The nursing home facility, located at 1101 Rock Street in Bowie, caught fire New Year’s Eve night.

Firefighters battled the blaze that engulfed the 30,000-square-foot L-shaped building into the early hours of the New Year.

Unfortunately the property recently was struck off and sold in a tax sale, ending up with the three taxing entities of the county, Bowie ISD and City of Bowie. The county agreed to transfer its interest so the city can demolish it and then possibly the property.

Pancakes with Santa serves some 300 meals

Bowie Police Officers Marlon Bryant, Reserve Officer Travis Fuller and Officer Esteban Moreno visited with Santa after enjoying pancakes at Pancakes with Santa Saturday hosted by the Bowie Fire Department.
The ladies of the Bowie Fire Department Auxiliary helped serve up pancakes that were cooked up by the firefighters. They were very festive with their elf headbands.
This little one wanted mom, so it may be another year before he feels comfortable visit the Big Guy. (Photos by Barbara Green)

Christmas in Forestburg this weekend

The community of Forestburg has kicked off its holiday season with a tree lighting on Nov. 30 with its Christmas in Forestburg activities planned for Dec. 9-10.
At 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 there will be a Community Movie Night in the Forestburg Community Center parking lot.
Christmas in Forestburg will be from noon to 7 p.m. on Dec. 10. There will be activities at the community center and around town. There will be free activities for the kids, vendors, and food trucks from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a lighted Christmas parade at 6 p.m.
The Forestburg Volunteer Fire Department will have a Christmas Street Dance, “Forestburg on Fire,” immediately following the parade from 6:30-11 p.m. in front of the fire hall. This is a free event, and donations will be accepted.
