BOWIE — Joe Baley Evans, 86, passed away July 29, 2017 in Bowie, TX.
The family received friends from 6 -8 p.m. July 31 at The White Family Funeral Home.
A funeral service was at 10 a.m. Aug. 1 at the First Baptist Church of Bowie. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery.
Joe was born Aug.19, 1930 in Bowie to George and Mattie (Warden) Evans. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1948. Joe served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.
He married Betty Taylor on July 3, 1955 in Bellevue. Joe worked as vice president in installment lending for 27 years for the First National Bank of Bowie until his retirement in 1995. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and raising cattle. Joe was president of the chamber of commerce in 1972 and director of the Jim Bowie Association for 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mattie Evans; brother, Bobby Evans; sister, Helen Tompkins and uncle, Luther Evans.
Joe is survived by his wife, Betty Evans, Bowie; daughters, Chris Simpson and husband Riley, and Kim Heugatter and husband Allen all of Bowie; grandchildren, Ty Evans and wife Lindsey, Lindsay Berend and husband J.D., and Fallon Richey and husband Chase all of Bowie, and Sawyer Heugatter, Lubbock; six great grandchildren; nieces, Sabra Robertson and husband Greg, Bowie, and Leslie Valenzuela, Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
