Fireman remains critical after cardiac event at house fire

A Bowie Rural Volunteer Fire Department firefighter remains in a Decatur hospital recovering from a cardiac event he experienced while helping battle a house fire last Friday.
The fire call was received at 11:30 a.m. as firefighters went to a frame house fully involved at 3873 State Highway 59 North.
Charlie Patterson was working a hose line in the yard of a house fire when he collapsed with pain from a possible heart attack. Emergency medical personnel were on the scene and able to provide immediate medical care.
Randall Preuninger, chief of the Bowie Rural VFD, said he visited Patterson on Monday and while he has experienced some improvement he remained in critical condition.

The family displaced when their home was destroyed by fire has received assistance from the American Red Cross and is staying in a local motel temporarily.
