Gold-Burg ISD implements District of Innovation plan

Gold-Burg Independent School District approved implementation of the new District of Innovation Plan during its Monday night meeting.
Stemming from House Bill 1842 passed during the 84th Legislative Session, Gold-Burg will gain more local control in several areas outlined in the plan.
Superintendent Roger Ellis said the DOI addressed educator certification and teacher contracts for example allowing for a longer probationary contract for some teachers, setting a different first day of school, transfer students can be released if they don’t keep up their grades and the length of the school day.
The district also has submitted updates to the safety program and emergency operations plans, which will be submitted to the Texas Association of School Boards for review. The policy addresses the arming of staff members in the district, which has been in operation the last two and half years at Gold-Burg.

Nocona bands rehearse Christmas concert

The Nocona School bands will celebrate the season with a Christmas concert on Dec. 8 in the high school auditorium.
The high school band will play at 7 p.m. and the middle school band at 6 p.m.

Montague County’s two high school band programs sent large groups of students to the Association of Texas Small School Bands All-Region Band Auditions on Dec. 3 at Graham High School. Bowie bands prepare holiday concerts

The Bowie High School Band and Choir will present “A Christmas to Remember” at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the high school gym.
The groups also will be collecting donation items such as gloves, socks, toboggans, throw blankets and personal heaters to be donated to the Bowie Mission.
The junior high band and choir will have their holiday concert from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the junior high auditorium.
