Bowie School Trustees took steps Thursday night to beef up the district safety plan including the possible addition of a second school resource officer, an enhanced presence of law officers during the school day, the purchase of handheld metal-detecting wands, phone system upgrades and additional staff training.
However, allowing certain staff members authority to carry firearms remains up for further discussion at a July 16 board meeting.
Trustees met Thursday night in a called session with the school safety plan the only topic on the agenda, slated for executive session.
