Chris Hughes, chief deputy for the Montague County Sheriff’s Office since January 2017, tendered his resignation on Thursday at the request of Sheriff Marshall Thomas following an internal investigation of a citizen’s complaint.
The sheriff said the complaint was made about two weeks ago by a citizen and centered on a violation of office policies and the law enforcement code of ethics. He emphasized no criminal activity was determined and if that had been proven “I would have arrested him myself,” said Thomas.
Hughes was named chief deputy when Thomas took office in January 2017.
