Bowie and Nocona High Schools competed at Graham on March 7 with their one-act plays with neither advancing past district although Bowie was named alternate play.
BHS’ entry, “Beggar’s Opera,” was plagued with last minute cast problems, but those attending reported the competition show was one of the best the cast and crew had done citing lots of creative vision, fun and costuming.
As alternate the play would advance to area if one of the two district 8-AAA plays could not compete.
Bowie will present its play in a public performance at 7 p.m. on March 18 in the junior high auditorium.
Caleb Miller was named to the All Star Cast, with Jason Buck receiving best sound tech with honorable mention to Haily Brinson.
Karla Murphey, director of the NHS production of “Dracula,” reported they were fragmented and needed a couple of more weeks to “polish up.” She cited lots of absences due to illness and other school activities that impacted rehearsals. She complimented Bowie on a great show despite last minute changes.
Nocona students receiving awards were Olivia Storey to the All Star Cast and Cana Cates, honorable mention. Kailey Armstrong received best lighting technician. Overall outstanding crew went to Nocona’s team of Alessandro Rico, JD DeStratis, Chloe Sutton, Jessica Flores and Kailey Armstrong.
