Hymns for the Hungry moves to July 31
UPDATE- Hymns for the Hungry organizers reported on June 24, the date for the event has been moved to July 31 with the same time and location.
Seven years ago, the First United Methodist Church of Bowie had a vision for helping to feed the hungry in their community.
That vision led to the creation of “Hymns for the Hungry,” an annual event which allows surrounding churches/organizations to support those in
This year’s host church is Lighthouse Assembly of God located at 2998 State Highway 59 in Bowie. This event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 17.
Each church or organization that would like to participate
“Meal deals” of a hot dog, chips, and drink will be served for $5. Donations will be taken for dessert. Admission is $1 per person.
All proceeds will go directly to “God’s Table,” which is an outreach provided by First Free Will Baptist Church. This outreach is open six nights a week and feeds between 25-40 people each night.
The program organizers will be accepting only the first 10 sign-ups, so don’t delay. Deadline to sign up is July 10. For more information or to sign your church up, call or text Jarae Scruggs at 940-841-1212.

Post-pandemic world changes all marketing

The big take-away from Tuesday’s Bowie Business Boost was time: “It only takes six seconds to make an impression in life.”
Lorie Vincent, certified economic developer, professional trainer and writer, was speaker for program number three of Bowie Boost with a focus on “Memorable Marketing in a Post-Pandemic Era.”
She opened about how she had started her business, ‘Acceleration by Design,’ and things were “rocking,” when 2020 came and things changed with the worldwide pandemic. As things began to reopen it appeared there were more opportunities but also more challenges.
Vincent laughed as she showed a Richard Simmons “Sweating to the Oldies,” infomercial that became one of the most popular and still running ads.
“Can you believe back then we would call a 1-800 number and give someone our credit card? That is crazy. They used big music, big voices and big adjectives,” exclaimed Vincent.

Senior center to serve up big breakfast April 27
Enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast and support the Bowie Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels program on April 27.
Serving will be 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the center at 501 Pelham. For $10 feast on biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash browns, plus coffee, tea and orange juice.
