BOWIE – Roy Lee Chastain Jr., 72, died on July 7, 2019 in Bowie, TX.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 13 at The White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
A memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on July 14, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, with Pastor Chris Osborne officiating.
Chastain will be buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on July 16, 2019.
He was born in Abilene on Nov.10, 1946 to Roy Lee Chastain Sr. and Dorothy Marie Stoup Chastain.
At the age of 18, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served as an aviation machinist’s mate (jet engine mechanic) petty officer third class (ADJ3) on the U.S.S. Forrestal aircraft carrier from 1964 to 1970. He was on the flight deck during the tragic accident that killed 134 sailors and injured 161. At the time, the Forrestal was engaged in combat operations in the Gulf of Tonkin, during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam and National Defense Service Medals.
He also was a proud member of Carter Lake Baptist Church and dearly loved his church family.
Roy is survived by his sons Kevin Scott Chastain, James Christopher Gerdes; daughter Candice Rene Chastain; brothers James Marcus Chastain, Joe Ed Chastain; sisters Nora Marie Chastain, Eve Lynn Chastain; four grandchildren; and former spouse Betty Pierce Chastain.
