UIL to require marching band students receive pre-participation physical exam

With only a few weeks left until school opens on Aug. 14, band students have learned they will have to undergo a physical before participating in extra-curricular activities.

A pre-participation physical examination has been a longtime requirement for student athletes, but this is the first year marching band students will face the same requirement. UIL regulates all extra-curricular activities for Texas students.

While this new ruling from the University Interscholastic League has been in the works the last two years, its arrival for Bowie Independent School District also comes amidst the transition to a new band director.
