The Bowie Lady Rabbits season got off on the right note as they won their opening game Tuesday night against Archer City at Midwestern State University’s “Battle in the Dome.”
The Lady Rabbits won in straight sets as some good late set play led to comfortable scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-17.
Despite the outcome, Bowie did not start off well. The Lady Cats jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set. The Lady Rabbits quickly recovered to tie the set at 5-5 to get into the game.
It was back and forth with neither team leading by more than two points for the next 20 points. The teams were tied at 15-15 when Bowie took control. The Lady Rabbits closed on 10-4 run to capture the first set 25-19.
The second set saw Bowie come out with an early 7-3 advantage, but Archer City came back to tie game at 10-10 and take a brief lead 13-12. After that the Lady Rabbits again were able to secure control of the set to lead 19-16.
The Lady Cats closed the distance to 21-19, but Bowie won the next four points to win the second set 25-19.
Up two sets, the Lady Rabbits wanted to avoid the dreaded third set let down. They were successful in that sense. The start of the set was competitive as Bowie could not get more than a two-point lead. That changed as the Lady Rabbits 13-12 lead grew to a 17-13 lead.
From there Bowie was able to close out the set in dominating fashion 8-3 on its way to winning the set 25-17 and the match.
