A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 in the Chapel of The White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not meant to be; so He put His arms around you and whispered “Come with Me.” God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. In a bittersweet moment another angel has found their wings.
Lester was born on Aug. 1, 1948 in Bowie. After graduating Bowie High School in 1967, he was called to serve his country in 1968. He took his training in Fort Polk, LA and then went to Fort Rucker, AL for advance infantry training. In 1969 he was transferred to Fort Hood for additional AIT. He was deployed to North Vietnam and in his own words “it was a hornet’s nest.” He served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Rangers and was given several commendations including a Bronze Star, Silver Star and numerous ribbons for services, above and beyond the call of duty from U.S. Army as well as the South Vietnam Government. In 1970 he completed his tour of duty and thanks to God returned to his home town of Bowie.
He returned to work for Martin and Martin Construction for several years operating heavy equipment. He continued his education at Cooke County as an air conditioning technician. Lester was a man of many talents. He operated a truck, hauling cattle and oil field equipment. Lester was a born again Christian and loved life to it’s fullest. He could always put a smile on your face and would do anything to help people. He was loved by many. He will be dearly missed and will live forever in our hearts.
