North Texas Ham Radio Operators band together for worldwide summer field trial of radio skills on June 25-26 in Henrietta.
Radio operators (Hams) from Wichita, Montague and Clay Counties will muster at Henrietta’s Hapgood Park to make radio contacts across the nation and around the world.
It is the 89th anniversary of the event’s inception in 1933 and will be the focal event for all Amateur Radio Operators in the US. Given the fact more than 40,000 operators will be getting on the air that weekend, it will also be one, if not the single biggest event in ham radio worldwide.
Field Day is a contest, a camp-out, an emergency communications exercise, an ice cream social and an opportunity to share the Extreme Nerdy-ness which is Amateur Radio. Yes, this is your grandfather’s cell phone. They practice radio skills they use in storm spotting, satellite-based communications, radio-based texting and email.
