There was plenty of excitement for the Saint Jo High School volleyball team on Monday as practice began.
The Lady Panthers are under first-year head coach Charlie Hamilton Pittman, and she was pleased with how opening-day training went.
“A was a little nervous,” Pittman said. “But, I soon as I got there, to the high school, I was like ‘Let’s do this.’ It was fun day, and I loved it.”
Hamilton said the girls worked hard, and showed a positive attitude. She reported 17 girls are out for volleyball.
Saint Jo will be playing in a scrimmage on Friday at Stoneburg.
The schedule is as follows. At 8 a.m., Perrin-Whitt will take on Saint Jo and then Gold-Burg will square off with Alvord, a young program.
Cheryl Cromleigh, Gold-Burg’s second-year coach, was happy with the turnout as well.
“It looks like I am going to have 19 out for volleyball,” she said. “It went really well. We worked on a lot of fundamentals. I think our hitting is 100 percent better than it was last year.” Read more in the Aug. 3 Bowie News.
Bowie senior Karlyn Dean performs a training regimen by flipping a heavy tire several times. It’s part of the strength and conditioning program the Lady Rabbits use. The team will participate in two scrimmages this coming Friday and Saturday. (News photo by Eric Viccaro)
