Bowie City Council approves first reading on HOT restructuring

It took the Bowie City Council 15 minutes to address a brief agenda of business Tuesday night.
The first reading of an ordinance to restructure how the hotel occupancy tax is allocated was approved on a 4-2 vote.
This change was recommended by the hotel/motel tax advisory committee at the Jan. 6 council meeting. It eliminates the percent allocations that are set aside for the community center, auditorium and promotional activities, and requires application for any use that meets the criteria set forth by law.
