The Bowie High School boys’ basketball team took another step closer to securing a district title on Friday night with a 68-42 thrashing of Boyd.
“We are in good shape,” Bowie head coach Doug Boxell exclaimed.
That’s for sure.
Bowie (22-9, 11-2) entered Tuesday’s regular-season finale against Henrietta with a one-game lead over the Bearcats for the 3A-9 crown.
Here were the scenarios for Tuesday night.
If Bowie defeated Henrietta, the Jackrabbits would add a shiny gold basketball to their trophy case. If the Bearcats came up victorious, the two teams would need to play a tie-breaker for the title and to determine the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.
Bowie took it to Boyd in the first half – especially in the second quarter – as the Jackrabbits outscored the Jackets 22-4 during the frame. Bowie established a 40-16 halftime edge.
“We turned up the pressure on defense and we moved the ball well on offense,” Boxell said.
