COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Potter player of week again

For the second time this season, North Central Texas College outside hitter Kelsey Potter has been named the player of the week.
She was tabbed as North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference player of the week for Sept. 27 through Oct. 3.
Potter is a 5-foot-9 freshman who played her senior year at Glen Rose for former Nocona coach Sandy Langford.
Potter recorded 35 kills and 23 digs in eight sets for the Lady Lions. She leads the entire nation in total attacks, and is in the top-10 in both total kills and points scored.
She had 24 kills on 60 attempts with only five errors against Paris, and then put down 11 kills to go with five digs versus Vernon.
NCTC stands 18-12 and 5-2 in Region V. Setter Hannah Altman was the player for the week previously, and the Lady Lions have two NTJCAC matches this week versus Hill and Ranger.
NCTC tryouts
North Central Texas College has announced tryouts for the 2016 team will take place from 1-3 p.m. on Dec. 6.
The tryouts will be in the Lions’ Fieldhouse on the NCTC campus in Gainesville.
The gymnasium will open at noon.
Scholarships are available. Players attending the tryout are asked to complete the online questionnaire form located at: www.nctcathletics.com.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
