The Bowie High School boys’ basketball team will be playing host this weekend as the Bowie Invitational takes court from Dec. 3-5 at various locations.
Varsity games will take place in the high school’s main gymnasium, junior varsity in the auxiliary gymnasium and the freshman tournament at Bowie Junior High School.
The varsity field is loaded with Krum – who defeated Bowie last week 69-52 – plus Iowa Park, Callisburg, Mineral Wells, Azle, Blue Ridge and Braemer College of Australia joining Bowie.
“This is going to be an exciting tournament,” Bowie head boys’ basketball coach Doug Boxell said. “Everybody’s going to be playing tough teams. This tournament will give us another test.”
Braemer is located in the Australian state of Victoria, not far from Melbourne.
Boxell said it will be a chance to highlight Bowie as a community and as a basketball program.
Bowie was the tournament champion a season ago; however, last year’s event featured a round-robin format.
This year, the tournament will feature a different style – with teams placed in pools.
Bowie will be in Pool A along with Azle, Mineral Wells and Braemer. Pool B has Iowa Park, Callisburg, Krum and Blue Ridge – the last team mentioned won the small-school tournament last year at Fantasy of Lights in Wichita Falls. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
