Bowie EDC facing revenue shortfall due to sales tax decline
Cost-cutting will be one of the watchwords for the Bowie Economic Development Corporation as the downturn in sales tax payments hit the group hard creating a major budget shortfall.
The board of directors met Wednesday for their monthly meeting. Executive Director Janis Crawley told the board its budget faces a $170,000 shortfall due to a decline sales tax payments that fund the 4A and 4B economic development sales tax corporation.
The 4B board faces a similar shortfall. Crawley said the board directed her to start reducing expenses any way she can. Each of the corporations receive one-half a cent in sales tax to fund its activities.
