Emotions simmered during the Saint Jo City Council meeting on Wednesday.

Former Saint Jo council member Lucas Thompson questioned city leaders about department heads and their functions.

It all stemmed from Thompson’s perception that Saint Jo’s day-to-day operations need greater accountability.

In an effort to solve some of those matters, and help move city public works projects along in a more timely and organized fashion, the council hired Tom Weger as an infrastructure consultant.

The measure passed 4-0, with Alderperson Stephanie West absent.

“I have bridge and highway construction experience,” said Weger, who serves as the chief financial officer at Coppell Construction, “and I have an office here in Saint Jo. I’ll be able to help check on projects.
