Deadline to submit applications for ballot by mail Feb. 20

Applications for ballot by mail for the March party primaries must be received no later than the close of business on Feb. 20.
Montague County Elections Administrator Ginger Wall said a person is eligible to vote by mail if they meet any of the following requirements: Age 65 or older, sick or disabled, expected to give birth within three weeks of election day; out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting in person; confined in jail but otherwise eligible and civilly committed under Chapter 841 of the Texas Health Code.

Amity Club readies political rally

Members of the Amity Club of Bowie will host their biennial political rally on Feb. 19 in the Bowie Community Center.
The evening opens at 5:30 p.m. with a homemade soup dinner prepared and served by the members until 6:30 p.m. The political rally featuring local and area candidates will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This rally also will include a pie and cake auction which supports the 2026 scholarship fund. The club presents three $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors at Bowie and Gold-Burg High Schools.

Charley Lanier named new county auditor

Charley Lanier, who has been working in various capacities including federal and state grant coordinator, ADA coordinator and subdivision liaison, has been named the new Montague County Auditor.
He replaces Jennifer Essary who retired at the end of January. Trish Byars, 97th District judge, appoints the auditor which has a two-year term. Essary has served as auditor since Aug. 6, 2007.
Byars began advertising for the vacancy in January.
