Saint Jo, Nocona seniors launch two weeks of commencement beginning Friday

This weekend begins a two-week celebration as area high schools present graduation ceremonies.
Saint Jo High School graduates on May 19 and Nocona on May 20.
Bowie, Prairie Valley, Bellevue and Forestburg will graduate on May 26, with Gold-Burg graduating on May 27.
The Bowie News graduation keepsake section will be published in the May 24 edition featuring all area high school graduates.
The Saint Jo Panthers go first with ceremonies at 7 p.m. on May 19 in the Saint Jo School Dome Gym.
Nocona High School will have graduation at 6 p.m. on May 20 in the Nocona Elementary gym. Diplomas will be presented by Superintendent Dr. Vicki Gearheart, Principal Stephenie Wright and Counselor Debbie Ulibarri.
Wright announced Monday they will have co-salutatorians due to a tie at 4.02 grade point average. They are Payton Ferguson and Alexis Page.
Meet the honor graduates of these two schools in your mid-week News. Watch for all the remaining school’s honor graduates next week as they graduate next weekend.

JBD Bass Tournament postponed

Due to high lake levels at Lake Amon G. Carter, the Jim Bowie Days Association organizers announced Friday the tournament has been postponed and a new date will be named soon.

AgriLife Extension hosting preserving the harvest workshop

Texas AgriLife Extension will host a July workshop on July 26, Preserving the Harvest, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Montague County, 300 W. Nelson.
This four-part series will teach and review the food preservation processes including water bathing, pickling, dehydrating and pressure canning. This program will have both education and hands-on activities with take-home practice.
Seating is limited so call the extension office to register at 894-4831.

Cantwell to lead Pioneer Court

The 2025 Pioneer Court will be led by Joan Cantwell as the pioneer queen, with Duchesses Bill Ann Jones and Sue Swint.
A coronation of the court will be at 2:30 p.m. on June 27 at the Bowie Community Center. The public is invited to attend the crowning followed by a reception hosted by the Amity Club of Bowie.
