Driver identified from fiery crash; no further details on wreck

While there is no additional information on what may have caused the wreck, the victim of the fiery crash of a pickup truck into a historic building on the courthouse square in Montague, the driver has been identified as Jason Baraquin, 46, of Oregon.
The Department of Public Safety released his identity Monday, but no other details of the wreck or a preliminary cause of death were available.
The wreck occurred about 9 a.m. on Aug. 19 when the pickup driven by Baraquin ran inside of the old grocery store building at the corner of Franklin and State Highway 59. DPS officials reported the 1999 Chevrolet pickup was traveling south on State Highway 175 when the driver ran through the State Highway 59 intersection, driving past the courthouse and crashing into the front of the building. The truck came to rest several feet inside the building and caught fire.
Debris from the building covered the back part of the truck as the front of the vehicle caught fire, along with parts of the building. Montague Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly and were assisted by Nocona Fire. It took a couple of hours to get the fire out to where a track hoe could be used to pull the truck out of the building.

Letters to Santa due by Dec. 4

Hey kids, it’s time to get your letters ready for Santa Claus!
The Bowie News invites families to submit their letters to Santa for publication in the Dec. 21 edition. Forms are available on our Facebook page and at bowienewsonline.com.
Print out a form and drop it off in Santa’s mailbox at the News office, 200 Walnut Street or in one of the school Santa boxes across the county.
Deadline to send in a letter is Dec. 4. While this may seem early there are hundreds of letters to type and then they have to ship off to the North Pole for the Big Guy to read.

New mayor takes oath in Saint Jo

A new mayor and two returning aldermen took the oath of office on Nov. 13 for the Saint Jo City Council.
The three races were uncontested during the recent election. Kelly Williamson will take over as mayor, as Colton Thomas and Melissa McPherson continue in their places. Thomas was elected to be mayor pro tem.
Aldermen took care of numerous organizational tasks related to its economic development boards and the council. Former Mayor Shawn Anderson and Hennessey were removed from city-related accounts, with the new mayor and mayor pro tem and McPherson were added to the city accounts.
