Bowie clinches district title at Holliday in five sets

The Bowie Lady Rabbits knew it was going to be tough on Friday heading into Holliday.
The teams put on a five-set epic that took everything both teams had, but in the end it was the Lady Rabbits who came out on top in the fifth set. Not only did Bowie win the match to stay undefeated in district play, but the win clinched the district title with one game still to play.
Almost all sets went down to the wire right from the get-go. The teams traded 25-23 wins in the first two sets to tie the score. Holliday got a good lead in the third set and was able to close it out and win 25-20, going up 2-1.
Bowie would need to win out if it was going to win and the fourth set took everything it had. It went to extra points, but the Lady Rabbits got it done 27-25 to force a fifth and final set.
Rolling with the momentum, Bowie built a sizable lead in the fifth set. Up 14-9, the Lady Eagles had trouble getting the ball up close to the net. They put up a wild free ball that got over the net, but it was sailing out of bounds right in front of the Lady Rabbits bench.
The call was close, but the referee ruled the ball out of bounds to earn Bowie’s final point as the team celebrated in relief.
