As the days tick away to November’s happy holiday of Thanksgiving communities are planning their dinner events.
Saint Jo and Forestburg will host their community dinners on Nov. 16 and the Bowie dinner will be on Nov. 23. Families and those who may not be able to be with family on this holiday are invited to attend these free events.
The Forestburg Community Service Club members present the holiday dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the community center. The club will provide meat, dressing, bread and drinks, while guests are asked to bring a side dish and/or desert.
In Saint Jo, the civic center board will provide the turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, bread and drinks. Others are asked to bring their favorite side dishes (vegetables, salads or desserts) to complete the meal. Food may be dropped off at the civic center that morning. Dinner will be served at noon on Feb. 16.
The Nocona Senior Center will host its annual Thanksgiving Feast at noon on Nov. 16 at the center. Cost is $10 per person and $5 for kids 12 and under. Those under four eat free. Dine-in and to-go orders available. RSVP to 940-825-3148.
First Methodist Church of Bowie members will once more host the Bowie community Thanksgiving Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They invited you to come as you are to share a meal in fellowship hall or call for delivery or carry-out.

Get ready for July Jam this Saturday night

Published

on

For a fun night out make plans to attend the 22nd annual July Jam starting at 6 p.m. on July 27 in the Bowie Community Center West Hall
There will be a “chickin’ pickin’ fiddling fun time” as guests will be entertained by amazing fiddling tunes and enjoy a chicken meal.
Tickets are just $15 with the event starting at 6 p.m. The funds raised help provide awards for the championship fiddler competition during the Oct. 5 Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival. The contest attracts talented musicians from all over to visit downtown Bowie to test their fiddling skills.
The event, hosted by Bowie Community Development, will feature a unique array of items up for bid in the silent auction plus a wide variety of homemade jams.
Hosted in conjunction with July Jam is the July Jam Poker Cruise presented by the Piston Heads Auto Club. This event starts at 9 a.m. with a $5 per hand entry and is open to anything with a motor.
The 60-mile cruise with three stops starts in Bowie Plaza and ends in the same location. Half of the proceeds goes to the winning hand with $5 charge for each extra card for hand. Buy as many as each driver would like. The other half of the funds raised goes towards the July Jam fundraising event.
