County debates personal vehicle use as option for commissioners

Tensions continue to run high between Montague County Commissioners Mike Mayfield and Roy Darden as the court approved an additional option for vehicle use by commissioners.
Last month those two, along with Commissioner Bob Langford argued about the no soda pop policy in the precincts where they could only buy water and drinks like Gatorade for their crew, not sodas.
After a lengthy debate full of accusations, the court agreed to allow commissioners to buy sodas; however, during the arguing Mayfield said there were several things they didn’t like that were going on in Darden’s precinct and he planned on bringing to the agenda for discussion.
While it was never specifically stated this option for vehicle use was one of those topics, Mayfield during discussion eluded to Darden allowing members of his crew to use county vehicles for non-work driving.
Mayfield said he would like to see commissioners have the option to use their own vehicle receiving a stipend of about $2,500 a month. He noted this amount was not far off what the county supplies.

Montague County Grand Jury issues November indicted cases

The following indictments were filed with the 97th District Clerk following the November session of the Montague County Grand Jury.
There were a total of 13 indictments with one sealed awaiting the arrest of a suspect.
A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

New transformer arrives at Bowie substation

The new transformer was placed on its pad when it arrived at the City of Bowie electrical substation last Friday. Installation of this 20 Mva transformer, which is larger than the two 1992 original 12.5 units, will begin this week and come on line early in the new year. (Courtesy photos)
