New spirit program to begin at Bowie High School

The new Husk Honor Guard of Bowie High School is now accepting applications for the upcoming year.
It is an all male spirit group that promotes and upholds the Jackrabbit traditions at school and in the community. Applications are due by March 20.
Parent interest meetings will be at 1 p.m. March 8 and 6 p.m. March 10 both at the high school. These meetings will provide all the details of the group’s expectations, commitments and how students can become part of this new organization. The group will travel with the cheer and drill teams.
The goal is to build school spirit, morale, support and service for the athletic and extracurricular programs. Some of the tasks would be to pump up the crowd during games, run BHS flags at football games, decorate campus on game day, lead student section at games, support cheer and drills teams with equipment and fundraising. Members will have the opportunity to create school traditions and show school spirit as the first official student spirit group.

BISD earns 100 score on FIRST

Bowie Independent School District Trustees accepted the resignation of one its long-time department heads Monday night and voted to post a new position to fill that post.
Wayne Walker, support services director for the past 18 years, submitted his resignation last week to take another job. He has supervised the district’s food nutrition, custodial and transportation programs.
After a brief executive session, the board accepted Walker’s resignation and voted to post a job for food nutrition director, instead of the multiple jobs.
FIRST report
Prior to the regular meeting, the board opened a public hearing for the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas report. Finance Director Paula Peterson offered the report where Bowie ISD received a perfect 100 score for fiscal 2023-24.

Montague School staff plans fall festival

Montague Independent School District will conduct its annual Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the new gym.
There will be fun for the entire family including games, bounce house, silent auction, bingo, haunted house, cake walk, sweet shop and concession stand with burgers and hot dogs. All proceeds go back to the students.
