Nocona City Council to meet June 14
Nocona City Council will discuss submitting a request to TxDot for three traffic lights on Clay Street during its June 14 meeting.
The submission of a TxCDBG Grant Program Application to the Texas Department of Agriculture for the community enhancement fund for $500,000 will be discussed. The funds would be used for the Justin Building remodel.
The board also will hear a request from Randy Duckworth to rename the ball fields on Pine Street and from Larry Fatheree regarding notices and tickets he has received for Code of Ordinance Violations at 710 East Mesquite.
Other items on the regular agenda include:
- A request from the Library Advisory Board for funds from the Library Bequeath Fund to purchase hardware and install internet services at the Library
- The 2017 Montague County Tax Appraisal District Proposed Budgets
- A request from the Nocona Economic Development Corporation for funds for paving improvements on two blocks of Baylor Street and two blocks of Oak Street
The city council will act as the building commission and conduct its first hearing on seven properties.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week
Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
