Bowie ISD food service earn national bronze award

Published

on

The four Bowie Independent School District campuses are bronze award recipients in the Healthier U.S. School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms.
This national program is a voluntary certification initiative recognizing those schools enrolled in Team Nutrition that have created healthier school environments through the promotion of nutrition and physical activity.
In 2010, “Let’s Move,” was introduced, incorporating HUSSC: SL to raise a healthier generation of kids. At that time, monetary incentive wards became available for each award level.
To date, awards have been given to schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.
As of November 2016 there were 4,329 schools certified (3,010 bronze, 845 silver, 3,049 gold and 165 Gold award of distinction).
Last week representatives from each campus food service received a frame certificate for their campus along with a banner to showcase it as a Bronze School.
Wayne Walker, director of support service, congratulated all the staff for their hard work.
