Miss Jim Bowie Days contestants sought

Contestants are being sough for the 2017 Miss Jim Bowie Days Rodeo Queen contest.
Age groups are 14-21 for Miss Jim Bowie Days and 13 and under for Little Miss.
Entry fee is $25. All contestants must attend a pre-contest meeting at 6 p.m. on June 11 at the Jim Bowie Arena. Application and contestant photo will be due then.
The contest will be on June 23. Horsemanship will start at 8 a.m. at the arena. Brunch and interviews will take place afterward.
Contestants will be required to ride in the grand entry of the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights’ rodeo grand entry, Saturday’s parade and other activities.

The queen prizes include a two-horse trailer, a $500 college scholarship and clothing allowance. Little Miss prizes will be a saddle certificate and clothing allowance.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
