City of Bowie Volunteer Firefighters ready “30 guns in 30 minutes” event

The City of Bowie Volunteer Fire Department will have an open house at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8 at 203 Walnut.
The doors and trucks will be open to the public. Everyone is invited to stop by and meet with the career staff and volunteers, check out the fleet of fire trucks and enjoy a burger with all the fixings. Snow cones also will be available for the kids.
The fundraiser drawing for 30 guns in 30 minutes also will take place this evening. A $100 ticket gets you 30 chances to win a gun. Only 300 tickets will be sold and at last count 265 had been sold. Proceeds go to help upgrade the department pagers.

Water board examines operations

Members of the Amon Carter Lake Water Supply Corporation board met for its meeting on April 29 examining the operations and finances of the corporation.
The board was recently reformed with new members and has begun learning about its operations. Secretary Carla Swofford said there were no public comments per the posted agenda as they went on into various reports.

BISD hosting pre-K roundup

The administration and staff of Bowie Independent School District are trying to gauge community interest in the district offering free pre-kindergarten for all students who are four years old by Sept. 1, 2026.
Enrollment packets will be available on May 7. Those interested are invited to a come-and-go round-up from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on May 7 at the elementary.

Chisholm Trail Rodeo coming to Nocona

Chisholm Trail Princess 2025

Nocona is preparing for the 74th annual Chisholm Trail Rodeo May 8 and 9 at the Chisholm Trail Arena.
The rodeo will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nightly with the Ryan Ready Band playing for the rodeo dance afterward on Saturday night. Tickets in advance are $12 and $15 at the gate.
All the traditional rodeo events are planned along with non-sanctioned events of junior barrels for 16 and under. There is $250 added each night, a jackpot nightly and contestants have a $50 entry fee. Entries open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 4-5.
The new Chisholm Trail Rodeo Queen and Princess will be crowned during Saturday night’s performance. Read about these young ladies in your Thursday Bowie New.
